9.6.20

Hi! Today we are going to read a text about new words in English. Words can be created in different ways, we have learnt about blends (combination of two words, like "brunch"), but you will read about other ways... We will also learn about the pronunciation of words in dictionaries. It is not essential to know all the phonetic symbols, but it helps when you use a dictionary. I guess that with online dictionaries we don't need to know the symbols. Anyway, it's a very interesting activity.

To start with, open your Student's book at page 25. Do activities:

  • 5 A. Read the text and answer the questions
  • 5 B Complete the gaps with the highlighted words
  • 5 C What's the meaning of those words?
  • 6 A What do the abbreviations mean?
  • 6 B How do you pronounce "search" and "busy"?
  • 6 C . Look at the words, listen to their pronunciation and guess their mearning. Here's the audio

If you would like to learn about new words that have been created, visit this website: Learn English Today

If you want to practise pronunciation I recommend the following app: SOUNDS

If you want to test your knowledge on phonetic symbols, here's a quiz

Happy Tuesday!
